A wearable glove designed to assist people with Parkinson’s disease who experience hand tremors and difficulty with precision grip. Conventional assistive gloves often cause fatigue due to their weight and provide a rigid wearing experience. In addition, they primarily focus on suppressing tremors rather than supporting natural hand movements. To address these limitations, the glove incorporates an ultra-lightweight pneumatic structure. Air-cell patches positioned at key grip points of the hand inflate only when needed, filling the gap between the hand and the object to create a stable grip with minimal effort. This allows users to maintain natural hand movement while performing precision grasping tasks more accurately and reliably.

PNEU: A Grip Assistance Device for People with Parkinson's Disease
The hand movement challenges faced by people with Parkinson’s disease go beyond tremors, affecting their ability to live independently.
Key regions involved in precision grip were analyzed, identifying the thumb, first web space, thenar eminence, hypothenar eminence, and wrist as primary support areas.
Moving beyond tremor suppression, PNEU aims to support everyday hand movements by enhancing the grip experience for people with Parkinson’s disease.
Named after the word
PNEU is composed of an air-cell integrated glove layer, a wrist-mounted control module, and vascular-inspired air channels that organically connect the system.
Micro air-cell technology injects air into ultra-thin TPU air cells, filling the space between the hand and the object to provide a more stable and comfortable grip.
Upon grasping an object, the air cells expand to fill the gap between the hand and the object, creating a more stable and comfortable grip.
