LUMO is a meditative matcha station designed for Gen Z. It was created from the idea that making matcha can be more than preparing a drink. For many young users, the ritual of whisking matcha offers a quiet moment to slow down, settle inner anxiety, and focus on the present. LUMO strengthens this value by turning the tea-making process into a guided and immersive ritual.
The concept is inspired by the rising moon. The station uses soft lighting to visualize each stage of the tea ritual and help the user stay focused. When the kettle is placed on the station, a welcome light gently marks the beginning of the experience. As the water heats, the light slowly changes from a crescent to a full moon, transforming waiting into a calm and meaningful moment. This allows the user to stay connected to the ritual rather than simply waiting for the water to boil.
During whisking, the handheld whisk device senses the user’s hand movements through an internal motion sensor. These movements are synchronized with the station lighting in real time, so the flow of whisking becomes a visible rhythm of light. This interaction helps the user feel more engaged in the process and deepens immersion in the act of making matcha. Once the tea is complete, the full moon gradually fades as the user drinks, allowing the ritual to end in a quiet and lingering sense of calm.
By combining the analog sensibility of tea culture with intuitive light-based interaction, LUMO reinterprets matcha as an everyday ritual of self-care. It is not only a tea tool, but a device that supports reflection, emotional balance, and mindful rest.
