This project addresses environmental inequity in Ghana, raising awareness of the fashion industry’s textile waste problem and promoting a circular socio-economy. Accra imports 800 million used clothes weekly, 40% of which are landfilled, causing pollution. Most retailers run at a deficit, and 43% of the population lives in slums. The initiative proposes upcycled Archi-products using low-tech methods inspired by Kente, Ghana's traditional fabric. These easily assembled and disassembled panels can be used as walls, ceilings, and facades, improving living conditions and creating community facilities. The project also aims to enhance Accra's circular economy, allowing locals to produce goods autonomously and sustainably, using Textile waste, without relying on external resources. Additionally, the panels can serve as first-aid shelters during disasters and aid in community revitalization. The simplified production and distribution system promotes local skills and sustainable industry development. The design encourages a sustainable investment and circular economy, tackling pollution from Textile waste and low-income challenges in the community.
