Poetics of Light is a collaborative project between ArtCenter College of Design and Tama Art University in Tokyo, created by students Cynthia (Chuyue) Qin and Hibiki Washiyama. This collection features three luminous pieces—Uro (雨露) Pendant Lamp (“raindrops”), Mizumari (水鞠) Table Lamp (“water sphere”), and Kasumi (霞) Wall Lamp (“sunset haze”)—each drawing inspiration from the tranquil allure of nature and traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Uro captures the gentle rhythm of raindrops, evoking the soft, calming sound of rain falling on leaves. Mizumari, with its interactive tactile sensor, reflects the purity of a water droplet, inviting users to engage with light in a playful yet meditative way. Kasumi re-creates shifting sunset hues through layered, diffused illumination, casting ethereal colored shadows on the wall that mimic the natural transition of dusk. Conceived as a response to modern stress, Poetics of Light transforms everyday spaces into immersive sanctuaries. By harmoniously blending fine materials, minimalist forms, and subtle technology, the collection offers a contemplative experience that reconnects individuals with moments of serenity—turning illumination into a poetic gesture of well-being.
