The Noise Cancelling Apartment project in Seoul, Korea, tackles the pervasive issue of floor noise in densely populated vertical housing structures. Recognizing the significant impact on resident comfort, the project integrates advanced noise-cancelling technologies from the audio industry into its design. The project employs a dual strategy of passive and active noise cancellation. Passive solutions focus on structural modifications to minimize continuous vibration flow and isolate vibrations within a double-core structure, effectively reducing noise transmission inherent in vertically aligned apartments. Active noise cancelling utilizes sensors to detect vibrations and noise-cancelling speakers strategically placed throughout the building. These speakers generate counteracting sound waves in real-time to neutralize noise, ensuring a quieter living environment for residents. By integrating these innovative technologies, the Noise Cancelling Apartment aims to set a new standard for residential comfort in noisy urban environments like Seoul. It demonstrates how thoughtful application of technology can resolve urban living challenges and enhance quality of life in densely populated areas.
