This piece illustrates the diverse ways cats express their emotions through their tails. For many people, particularly those who do not own cats, interpreting a cat's tail movements can be quite puzzling. The inspiration for this work emerged when my younger brother invited his friends over, and some of them were unfamiliar with feline behavior. During their visit, one friend accidentally got scratched by Pepper, my pet cat, after grabbing his tail. This incident emphasizes that cats dislike having their tails handled, as tails serve not only as a means of communication but also as tools to indicate their status and emotions. Understanding a cat’s tail language is crucial for safe interactions. For example, a high tail indicates happiness, while a flicking tail may signal irritation. This piece aims to educate children about these cues in a fun and engaging way. Created using Adobe Illustrator, I focused on large, eye-catching illustrations to ensure that the content is easily digestible for young readers. By portraying these playful yet informative visuals, I hope to foster a better understanding of cats’ emotional expressions and promote safer interactions between children and their feline companions.
