SAP’s Design & Co-Innovation Center joined the Heidelberg University Hospital in the Emerging Technologies in Cervical Cancer Screening (ETiCCS) project to implement an innovative healthcare screening approach in fragile infrastructures by digitizing cervical cancer screening. The pilot of ETiCCS is a one-year study with 800 women performed by the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya. During several design thinking workshops at the SAP AppHaus Heidelberg the experts focused on uncovering the underlying challenges of cancer screening in emerging countries today: incomplete communication, accessibility, and availability of patient data. These efforts were complemented by on-site research in Eldoret. After the Discover- and Design-Phase executed by the Design & Co-Innovation Center, SAP’s Custom Development organization developed and implemented a mobile app connecting to the SAP HANA Cloud Platform that helps accelerate study recruitment and provision of cancer test results.
