The newly designed pig barn aims to maximize the well-being of both animals and workers by focusing on animal welfare, disease prevention, and management efficiency. To achieve this, the barn increases the pigs' living and movement spaces, aligning with welfare standards. Windows at the pigs’ eye level introduce fresh outdoor air directly into the barn, providing continuous ventilation, while high ceilings and expanded space maintain a comfortable environment. Architectural solutions for disease control include spatial separation between pigs, as well as the division and strategic integration of spaces for sows and piglets to minimize cross-infection risks. To address productivity losses in feed distribution, a common issue in rectangular barns, this design adopts a hexagonal layout that enables a single, circular feeding path to efficiently distribute feed to all pigs. Additionally, a central management room allows a single caretaker to oversee all pig activities. For enhanced animal welfare, a garden between barn units promotes regular sun exposure and movement, encouraging interaction with a natural, eco-friendly environment. This new barn design, aimed at boosting both animal welfare and labor efficiency, is expected to make a positive impact on the livestock industry.
