The new Cardionics SimShirt is a garment worn by a Standardized Patient (SP)* for simulating physiological conditions to teach healthcare and medical students and examine their diagnostic procedural skills relating to auscultation—the action of listening to sounds from the heart, lungs, or other organs, typically with a stethoscope, as a part of a medical diagnosis. The SimShirt allows the SP to wear 48 individual, 22 mm diameter sized, RFID sensors that have been integrated into a tight-fitting shirt in anatomically correct locations in order to provide a more realistic learning experience when used with the Cardionics WiFi enabled SimScope stethoscope. The Cardionics SimScope picks up the signals from the individual RFID tags and through its programing delivers a specific sound file to the person wearing the stethoscope. *A Standardized Patient (SP) is someone who has been trained to portray, in a consistent, standardized manner, a patient in a medical situation. Standardized Patients are already extensively used in medical and nursing education to allow students and healthcare professionals to practice and improve their clinical and conversational skills in an actual patient encounter.
