The ball-tab prevents cable breaking because the cable is freely rotatable by ball hinge structure. Also, when adaptors and plugs over occcupy space, you can reduce the inconvenience of re-plugging or re-inserting the plug. When the module is not in use, the ball can be turned upside down to prevent dust accumulating.
