General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Volt concept car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It’s the company’s first plug-in vehicle, theoretically capable of traveling up to 640 miles on a charge. The Volt is targeted both for short commutes and long drives. GM says the Volt would save a typical driver 500 gallons of fuel a year ($1,500 at $3 per gallon) while adding only around $300 to a home electric bill. The Volt is scheduled for production in 2010.
