The OLPC Yoyo is an efficient mechanism for generating power while also being robust, highly functional and expressive at the same time. The Yoyo is designed to allow children to harvest their own manpower to power the XO laptop when electricity is absent. The strap is looped through the unit allowing for easy connection to a chair leg, tree branch, etc and resistant against the mechanical force exerted by the user. The Yoyo has a universal grip that is ergonomically comfortable across a variety of hand sizes and shapes. The unit is one solid piece of plastic with an integrated handle, which acts as a seal from elements and from being dropped. The combination of iconic design, consideration of the use environment and easy operation makes this an innovative product to accompany the OLPC XO Laptop. The Yoyo unit solves the problem of a lack of available resources and enables the OLPC XO Laptop to further connect the developing population.
