The design for this new streetlight uses innovative technology to contribute to the environment in a unique way. Its structure consists of a single steel tube that has been flattened into an elliptical shape. This shape has then been twisted and curved to increase its structural stiffness. The diameter of the pole will allow all electrical components to be integrated within it. A panel of photovoltaic cells integrated into the top surface of the lamp produces electricity that is stored in the light pole. The amount of energy generated on a typical day is sufficient to power an LED luminaire and a walk/don’t walk sign. In most environments this pole is self-sufficient and can be installed independent of electrical wiring.
