100 American Flags,” published by Ten Speed Press, provides a look at how average Americans used and interpreted their nation’s banner over the past 230 years. Showcasing the collection of Pentagram designer Kit Hinrichs, the book features 100 sewn, painted, carved, woven, etched, assembled and printed objects displaying the Stars and Stripes. It includes everything from wartime memorabilia and one-of-a-kind artwork to children’s toys and Native American beadwork. Photographs were taken by Terry Heffernan and text written by Delphine Hirasuna. Hinrichs, Heffernan and Hirasuna have collaborated on four books to date. This is the second book in their “100” series. The first, “100 Baseball Icons,” which was released in April 2008, presents 100 historical objects from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
