Poor air quality is a global issue, causing serious health problems such as asthma, cancer, and heart disease around the world. Data about air quality could improve this situation by enabling important advances in medicine, science, and policy. However, only limited data about air quality is currently available. To address this critical need for more air quality data, we have developed the O2Q, a self-contained and unobtrusive monitoring device that can be clipped to a bag or carried as an accessory. The O2Q therefore allows individuals to collect air quality data as they go about their daily lives. To make this air quality monitor appropriate for use by a wide range of novice users, our team used an iterative, multi-disciplinary design process. The resulting device is useful as a personal health object.
