The Randall Museum Overlook in Corona Heights recently won a Spark 2009 Design and Architecture Award. The Randall Museum offers youth and adults opportunities for active involvement and recreation in an integrated program of arts and sciences, and needed a seating area to accommodate outdoor activities, classes, and to support the views of San Francisco from their under-utilized grounds. Principal Marc L’Italien offered EHDD Architecture’s pro-bono services to design and help construct the overlook. Made of 150+ year old redwood planks reclaimed from water tanks in Northern California, the project supports the Museum and EHDD’s long standing relationship with sustainability and the local environment. The project was designed by Matthew Rouse and built by nearly 20 volunteers including members of the museum, the neighborhood, and the firm.
