The Safe Agua collaboration and multi-disciplinary project is an exemplar of the national and international partnerships brokered by Art Center’s social impact Department, Desigmmatters. The project reflects a bold approach to contemporary pedagogy that is redefining the role of artists and designers as potent catalysts for social innovation. Through the collaboration with the nonprofit group Un Techo Para Chile and its umbrella organization, Un Techo Para mi País. After two weeks of field research in Chile led by three faculty from the Environmental and Product Design departments, Art Center’s multidisciplinary team of 12 students (Departments of Environmental Design, Product Design, Transportation Design, Graphic Design and Graduate Broadcast Cinema) created six innovative solutions from product to system, to community spaces, that addressed using, storing, and transporting water.
