We designed the Roadster with the belief that we could break through the barriers of technology and the existing automotive standards to create an electric powertrain that delivered very fast and very fun driving. With the Model S we continue on our journey - taking our unrivaled electric powertrain and complimenting it with the best technology available for all aspects of the car. Model S is the automobile of the 21st century. The first ever premium electric sedan combines pioneering technology with timeless elegance. To create this pinnacle of vehicle innovation, the designer tackled an ambitious challenge: produce a mid-sized sedan that seats seven people, with an unprecedented amount of luggage, in a package that is both functional and better looking than anything else on the market. The electric car is also designed to maximize range and efficiency -- built of stamped aluminum, and designed with exceptional aerodynamics. The battery pack and powertrain components of Model S lie flat in the floor, giving the vehicle excellent weight distribution and rigidity. Because of the position of the powertrain, Model S offers luxurious space, seating for five adults and two children, and a second cargo area under the hood.
