The PakMat™ offers comfort, protection, and sustainability. The Aero PakMat™ is a comfortable, eco-friendly, and compact product ideal for people who enjoy sleeping comfortably in the outdoors. There is no need to carry a separate pump or rely on an electrical power source—the PakMat™ uses a handheld pump with human energy to inflate the bed. It is the first air pump that is specifically designed to act as a clean storage unit for the airbed it is designed to inflate. The PakMat™ provides quick, reliable and durable storage for an Aerobed mattress in a compact tube. The product is intended to be used for both extreme and base camping. The client’s objective was to create a product that was sleek and compact enough to easily fit on a backpack or to be hand carried by a camper or hiker in place of a self inflating mat or traditional bulky airbed. It was also designed to be both ergonomic and produce maximum air flow to allow for quick ninety second inflation of the airbed. Concept sketches, working models and renderings were developed for early form evaluation and research prior to initiating CAD development.
