Even i2i’s name is reflective of its intent. Observing small groups and teams working in environments comprised of products perhaps better suited for lobbies or waiting areas, the development team believed that the performance of these groups or teams could be enhanced if the seating better supported their bodies and behaviors. Typically these settings are less formal than conference rooms and users are engaged in active dialog with each other and over content. The unique dual-swivel mechanism enables the users to easily change posture(s) and orientation supporting seamless interaction and engagement with each other. While traditional solutions can force a front facing and firm upright sit, the back of the i2i chair moves and flexes with the user providing proper support for as long as you need it, wherever you need it and regardless of how you sit. An optional tablet arm supports laptop use. i2i’s unique combination of materials; 3D knit upholstery, glass filled nylon shell, and aluminum base were carefully chosen to deliver a unique design and physical experience as well as support specific environmental performance objectives. i2i was designed by the Steelcase Design Studio in collaboration with IDEO.
