DCI enlisted our team to create a next generation system that set new industry standards and established a design language for future DCI products. Subterranean Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a “trenchless” process that enables precise placement of underground utilities such as telecommunications, power, water, and gas with much less disruption to the environment. The system consists of a transmitter (attached to the drill-head) and the handheld drill-head locator which together calculate depth, position, and direction. This data is displayed on the handheld receiver and also transmitted to a display on the HDD rig, allowing two operators to direct the drill’s progress. . The new F2 provides up to 8 hrs of operation per charge -- a full workday. The battery can be easily swapped out (even while wearing work gloves) and has a bright, built-in status indicator that constantly shows the remaining charge. The glue-sealed, waterproof chassis is constructed from high-impact ABS. The bottom third (the part placed on the ground while in use) is protected by a durable urethane over-mold material which provides resistance against shock as well as the effects of moisture and dirt. The handle is made from stainless steel tubing for an easy grip.
