d.light S1 is a solar lamp designed to displace kerosene lamps. Worldwide, 1.6 billion people rely on kerosene for light. Kerosene lamps are dim, dirty, and dangerous, annually releasing at least 100 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and harming millions through fumes or fires. d.light S1 costs US$8, and is designed to withstand hot, dusty, and humid environments filled with insects and wild animals. It can be dropped from a height of three meters or even run over by a car without any impact to its functionality.
