Starting as Apdok-guk (County of Apdok) in the ancient Samhan period, the present Gyeongsan City (of Korea) has a 1,000 year history. Nonetheless, its citizens have made relatively little effort to conserve and promote its cultural heritage, to the point that even the local residents are not fully aware of the city’s history. In addition, it has been reported that only a few locals have participated in annual festivals on citizen's days. For information on the city's heritage, 3 main steps were taken: a literary investigation, visits to Gyeongsan City Library along with other cultural heritage sites, and a consultation with the Gyeongsan Museum. Moreover, 50 parents in Gyeongsan City were surveyed with 10 questions including the types of games their children enjoy, their opinions about educational board games and their opinions on games based on the cultural heritage of the city. Their replies were integrated in the board game design. As a result, our team suggests a board game for children aged between 6 and 11 to enjoy and learn the cultural heritage of Gyeongsan City. This will provide them with an opportunity to learn the historical background and value of the local community through fun game play.
