Sound Cushion for Dementia is part of a larger project entitled: IoT Product Design for Dementia, conducted at and sponsored by UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science & Technology), Korea. We all enjoy listening to music or familiar sounds from our past, especially when certain songs and sounds bring back fond memories. Sound Cushion for Dementia provides a multi-sensory experience of touching and hearing to dementia patients to assist memory recall. Listening to songs and sounds from the user's past has been proved to help people living with dementia through improved emotional engagement, even after the music or sound has stopped playing. Building upon these insights Sound Cushion for Dementia is positioned as an IoT product design intervention to support improved wellness. Through reminiscence on past life experiences, triggered by bespoke audio, Sound Cushion for Dementia provides opportunities for more meaningful communication between PwD, peers, care-providers and loved ones.
