In search of a design that reflected the emotionally and socially intelligent Moxie, Embodied worked in partnership with Yves Behar’s design studio--fuseproject. Tall enough to be of interest without being unwieldy, Moxie measures in at 387mm tall and is designed to work with children between the ages of; however, younger children can also use Moxie with some assistance. The team took special care in collaborating with Embodied to define and balance several of the smart companion’s key features including its facial expression, overall shape, color palette, and exterior materiality. Enabled by machine learning technology that continuously adapts to and learns from the human user, from the moment Moxie says hello, it begins learning. Over time, Moxie learns about the child to better connect and help with developmental goals. Embodied has also created an entire universe for Moxie, including an online portal with daily missions and stories, playing cards, books and more and an app designed specifically for parents to track their child’s progress. Children become robot mentors and in turn, Moxie inspires them to think creatively, problem solve, follow curiosity, respect others, turn-take and share, have empathy, and more.
