SEAWEED&CORN is a space divider made of seaweed from Busan and biodegradable resin module extracted from corn starch. The module acts as a skeleton, and the dried seaweed is the skin surrounding it. Engineering process of topology optimization increased the durability of the structure about 26% while reducing the use of resin 2.2% per module. Also, all components of the design are decomposed by microorganisms in soil after about 6 months and become the start of new cycle. On the southern coast of Korea, the dried seaweeds hanging in line are commonly seen. The translucent-layered surface of them turns brown and yellow when exposed to the sunlight. I wondered if this beauty of raw material could come into the house and function as interior furniture.
