Tables and chairs, sofas and tables, desks and chairs. Many things in the world are paired up. And when they match with the right mate, they belong in the right place. It also strengthens their functions. The stepstool’s function is equivocal. It can be a shelf, a chair, or a footstool. But with a shelf that can be used as a side table or a storage closet, its ambiguous role can be made clear. In addition, by placing two pieces of furniture in the same context, the stepstool can have a value in itself as objet d'art.
