Seashell is a material with high potential, composed of over 90% calcium carbonate and has properties similar to limestone, which is used in cement. These shells can be processed, ground and blended with other natural ingredients to produce a material of increased rigidity. This material’s hardness is comparable to that of plastic’s and can therefore be made into products of various shapes and sizes. I have made an eco-friendly solid dish detergent package design using this shell-based material. After use, the lid of the case is also designed to be reused as a soap stand. The shape of the lid is inspired by clam shells with soap placed atop symbolizing the pearl. The brand name ‘BE NEW’ is a play on the Korean word for ‘soap’ (binu) whilst also representing the creation of new value from discarded ecological resources. Overall, this product allows for water pollution to be prevented in two ways by using eco-friendly solid dishwashing detergent in an upcycling package made from natural, shell-based materials. The colors are named ‘clean beach ivory’ and ‘live ocean blue’ to express protecting the sea and environment with natural and calm themes.
