Field technicians and inspectors are out in extreme conditions every day. They use specialized equipment to repair the machines around us—factories and ferries to cell towers and train tunnels. We designed IBM Maximo Mobile to help them do their jobs by bringing big data and AI-powered features directly to their pocket. Since they do their job in ever changing environments and physical conditions we began with familiar icons to represent common tasks and functions. Then, we turned these into large, tappable buttons that are easy for a field user’s gloved finger. We aid them through their work with crisp blue buttons and condensed key information into glanceable mini-dashboards. We optimize their work based on location, travel time, and urgency, giving them a comprehensive view of the work. A clear mobile-first design virtually eliminates the need for traditional help support. Watson insights enables technicians to get specific answers to unexpected complications gathered from documents scattered across their organization. With AI image analysis, technicians can precisely identify assets and components within seconds. Technicians get real-time mobile communication with remote experts who can annotate what the technician sees in real-time and appear as augmented reality notes.
