It has been a worldwide trend to pursue indoor farming due to higher productivity in a much smaller area, shorter growing times, lower water use, and also improved food taste. In addition, with indoor farming, production can go on all year round, defying the seasons. Terra-Garden is a vessel that grows and stores ingredients to be used in contemporary kitchens. While the upper part of Terra-Garden has the functionality of indoor farming, it also brings the principle of evaporative cooling into today’s kitchen. With the use of terracotta, the cooling vessel lowers the temperature by up to 10°C. The product consists of two-layers of terracotta for effective cooling. The outer layer, which works as a cover and a door, has the functionality of a sliding door, so that users can easily approach the ingredients within. The inner layer, which forms the shelves within, is also made of terracotta. The bottom part is a water tray, which is the fundamental part needed for cooling. Terracotta collects the water from the tray, and uses it to maintain the temperature. The evaporation of water removes heat and cools the fruits and vegetables, and also hydrates the plants.
