Archer’s mission is to unlock the skies, freeing people to re-imagine how they live and spend time. It will accomplish this through the development and operation of Midnight, a pilot-plus-four-passenger eVTOL aircraft that will be used for passenger travel in URBAN AIR MOBILITY (UAM) networks. With an expected payload of 1,000 pounds and a maximum range of 100 miles, Archer is optimizing Midnight to perform back-to-back short distance flights in and around city centers with approximately 10 minutes charging cycles in-between. With a top speed of 150 miles per hour, Midnight will enable travelers to quickly navigate their surroundings within Archer’s UAM network. At its cruising altitude of approximately 2,000 feet, Midnight’s design ensures that noise that reaches the ground measures around 45 A-weighted decibels, or nearly silent to residents below. Through high redundancy, simplified propulsion systems, and the elimination of single points of failure, Midnight is safer when compared to a traditional helicopter. Flights with Midnight are expected to be comparable to the cost of a vehicle ride-sharing service to the same destination. Archer expects to receive FAA Type Certification in late-2024 and commence with the first phase of its UAM operations in 2025.
