The store owner’s purpose of planning this project is clear: to build a private bar in which to share food, wine, music and sentiments with friends. Admission follows a ritualistic process: people pass between the black walls and courtyard symbolizing transition and intermediary between city and store, blocking out troubles and constraints along the way. The wooden floor of the inner courtyard exudes an earthy tone and new windows are opened in the building wall facing the courtyard. Steel frames, wire glass and glass bricks are used in the lower half and a two-stage open passage guides light and shadow to pass through freely, before finally entering into the indoor venue intended for drinking, celebration, music and sharing life. The old interior installations were completely demolished to make way for a free flowing line of movement and layout, with atmospheric lighting fixtures to match. The refurbished bar-top forms the primary line of function and the most direct medium of interaction with guests. The deliberately exposed structural columns of the bar correspond with overhanging beams and the triangular stairs in the back and partially sunken wooden ceiling add a lively touch in terms of visual perspective.
