"Green the Gray" is a multi-sensory diary design design project created to reconnect people with nature in urban settings. Inspired by the theme "Connections to Nature: Looking Inside, Going Outside," the project encourages participants to document their daily encounters with both the overwhelming presence of concrete and the subtle, resilient signs of greenery such as balcony plants, street trees, and climbing vines on buildings. The diary format was chosen for its intimacy and accessibility, allowing users to record not only visual observations but also sounds, textures, and even scents. By engaging multiple senses, the project deepens awareness and fosters a more meaningful relationship with the environment. The act of daily reflection helps participants become more mindful of their surroundings and notice the often-overlooked natural elements that coexist with urban infrastructure. Through this process, "Green the Gray" aims to shift perspectives, showing that nature is present even in the most built-up environments. The project’s message is that by noticing and valuing these green spaces, individuals can feel more connected to their environment and become advocates for sustainable urban living. Ultimately, "Green the Gray" demonstrates that creativity and mindfulness can inspire positive change, helping cities become healthier and more harmonious places for all.
