Mystic Stride is an immersive mobile experience that encourages users to explore the real world while discovering the mythical creatures known as yokai. Designed using Figma over a 16-week period, the app combines AR technology, health-focused challenges, and gamified storytelling to create a culturally rich, interactive journey. Rooted in Japanese folklore, the app invites users to walk, uncover yokai through AR encounters, and learn their stories, origins, and meanings. Users complete wellness challenges to unlock and nurture yokai, encouraging healthy habits like walking, hydration, and mindful breaks. Each yokai comes with beautifully designed profiles, including location clues, rarity levels, and origin stories—from ancient sea spirits to mischievous river creatures. The project was inspired by the desire to transform mundane routines into meaningful experiences. By blending education with interactivity, Mystic Stride bridges the gap between traditional cultural learning and modern-day mobile behavior. Core features include a yokai collection tracker, AR-based exploration, wellness missions, and a story-driven UI that evolves with the user’s progress. This project reflects an effort to reimagine how folklore can fit into daily life while promoting physical and mental well-being.
