Children with hearing impairments often struggle to perceive sounds, making it difficult for them to respond immediately in emergency situations. To recognize danger and react quickly, they need alternative sensory pathways beyond hearing. In particular, sensory-based learning that focuses on visual and tactile stimuli has proven effective in enhancing awareness and response in crisis situations. The earlier this type of learning is introduced, the more significantly it improves a child’s ability to cope in real-life emergencies. To address this need, tivoo proposes a sensory-based crisis response learning device designed to help children detect and respond to danger using vibration and visual cues. The device is shaped like a joystick, allowing children to engage with it naturally through play, while simultaneously developing skills in emotional expression and emergency response. Sound is translated into vibrations—through variations in frequency, intensity, and rhythm—which are delivered through the skin. These are combined with visual stimuli to deepen the child’s sensory engagement. By helping children with hearing impairments protect themselves and express their emotions, tivoo goes beyond a simple assistive tool to become an educational device that fosters independent and intuitive response capabilities.
