Children with asthma often struggle with using metered-dose inhalers due to fear, confusion, or disinterest. SOIR addresses these challenges through a culturally inspired, emotionally engaging design. Modeled after the Korean traditional wind instrument taepyeongso, SOIR looks and feels like a musical object—not a medical device. When children inhale properly, a green light glows. If more effort is needed, a red light provides gentle feedback. Upon completion, music plays—transforming treatment into play. This approach is not just playful, but evidence-based. According to a 2023 study published in the Journal of Asthma and Allergy, music therapy improves pulmonary function and medication adherence in children with asthma, ultimately enhancing their quality of life. SOIR also includes a built-in spacer, an intuitive button layout mimicking musical gestures, and a companion app for continued learning and engagement. It empowers children to participate in their own care with confidence and joy. SOIR redefines inhaler design—not as a clinical routine, but as a meaningful, cultural, and healing interaction.
