“Steam Orchard | 감” This concept store offers a multisensory experience centered on Korea’s native fruit—persimmons. While exports of Korean fruits are growing, many are damaged during shipping and discarded due to imperfections. This project explores how to give new purpose to those unwanted fruits. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Korean practice of simmering surplus fruit into jam, the store turns this wisdom into spatial experience. It combines classic architectural elements like chimneys and steam to reinterpret cultural heritage with a sustainable lens. The space is divided vertically: on the ground floor, intact persimmons are sorted and sold; damaged ones are simmered in a transparent steamer. The rising steam carries fragrance and warmth through visible pipes to the second floor and rooftop chimney. There, the mist gently dyes fabric in soft orange tones, echoing the ripening process. The scent and visual movement attract passersby, offering emotional engagement. At night, orange LED lights illuminate the steam, heightening its poetic effect. More than a store, this space encourages reflection on waste, care, and the sensory value of food—reclaiming the forgotten beauty of imperfect fruit and turning everyday consumption into a meaningful cultural encounter.
