Pet blood donation is a vital act that can save lives, but in some countries, there are still serious ethical and sanitary concerns due to continued reliance on captive donor dogs. In California, for example, over 97% of transfusion blood comes from dogs raised in closed facilities, where they are repeatedly and forcibly bled and euthanized once deemed no longer useful. Dog Donor was developed to replace such a system and promote a culture of voluntary blood donation among companion dogs. Designed with an ergonomic structure tailored to the body of large dogs, it ensures a safe and comfortable donation experience while also considering the convenience of veterinarians and pet guardians. Key features include easy access to the neck area for blood collection, a replaceable hygienic mat, a built-in blood pack shaker to prevent clotting, and a calming layout that allows interaction with guardians. Additionally, the system can be expanded through integration with a dedicated app that manages appointments, health tracking, and feedback—establishing a new standard for ethical and safe canine blood donation.
