The Fenix ReadySet is a plug & play renewable energy system designed for the 1.6 billion people living without electricity worldwide. The ReadySet is an intelligent battery that can quickly and safely charge from a variety of sources including solar panels, bicycle generators as well as from the electricity grid. Designed for the highest power and efficiency at the least possible cost, its sophisticated electronics enable fast 100W-peak charging and protect it from spikes, surges and deep discharge to extend the life of the battery. The ReadySet provides on-demand electricity via two open-standard 12-volt car adapter ports and two USB ports. These can power applications including clean lighting to replace candles and kerosene lanterns or charge mobile phones to provide access to communications, information and participate in the global economy. Designed to be a business in a box, an entrepreneur at the base-of-the-pyramid (BoP) can use the ReadySet to deliver off-grid access to energy and improve the quality of life in their community while earning a sustainable income. From its inception, the ReadySet was designed with social and environmental considerations in mind. The design team traveled extensively to meet with off-grid entrepreneurs and employed user-centered design and ethnographic research methods.
