VUE, a new watch for Issey Miyake, recognizes of the importance of time, namely the present. Why do we need to see all twelve numbers when only one is needed? Our consciousness is naturally drawn to the present moment. The watch’s unique approach presents the current hour fully framed by the previous hour fading out of view, and the next gradually appearing through the use of partial arc slits on the rotating hour disc. The simple and novel cylindrical glass top allows us to see the time from the side as well. The packaging echoes this notion of time and reveal, with a gradient transitioning up the case until disappearing, like the numbers on the watch face. Within, a reusable note pad can be flipped through to reveal VUE hidden inside. VUE is a way to feel time’s appearance and disappearance in our lives; so we can live a new view of time.
