The Target cart has a distinctive look due to its cantilever design. It carries more merchandise than other carts, due to its open lower shelf and greater basket volume. Large circular perforations in the basket are unique to this design and echo the Target logo. They also help the cart shed rain and allow air to pass through, mitigating the effect of high wind blowing carts around. The basket had to be able to carry 600 lbs. of batteries, yet have no metal in the structure to block RFID readers.
