Artist's Clothes Dryer

Winner - Gold

Competition: Spark:Spring Student
Designer: Minsu Kim - Student Designer
Design Type: Laundry Rack
Company / Organization / School: Kingston School of Art
Website: minsukim.com

This laundry rack looks like a picture frame when it is adjusted towards the wall. The pattern has been created so the user cannot overload or overlap clothes for optimum drying times, therefore the pattern is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. It solves small space living issues.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

Lisa Sullivan— "How can you not love a new iteration on an old standby: the indoor clothes dryer? This solution makes art in a playful way out of the requirements for the object, by making a pattern that is interesting that sits against a wall surface. We could see many versions of this object, and found that it could be quite marketable. A nice alternative to fold away clothes dryers and very useful for small abodes."

Earl Gee— "An ingenious, space-saving, and utilitarian design—cleverly transforming wall art into a supremely functional form."

Jochen Backs— "Simple idea to turn an everyday utility item into something more. The dual purpose provides an interesting transition from utility to art piece."
